What can you do at Work:

Did you know?

It costs the average person £19.10 every day to work from an office? Even after paying for extra heating and electricity at home, working remotely costs just £9.41 a day. That means you could save £9.69 every single day just by skipping the trip!

Think Before You Print/Every page costs more than you think once you add paper, ink and energy. UK office workers print around 6,000 pages a year, costing about £150 per employee. 8,000 sheets equal one pine tree. How many could your office save?##
Skip The Trip/Working from home, meeting online, or scheduling in-person meetings the same day. It reduces commuting, cuts travel emissions and helps keep Leeds’ air cleaner. The average person in England travels 1,007 miles a year commuting.##
Lights Out, Screen Off/Make switching off part of your end-of-day routine. Lights, monitors and printers left on overnight waste energy. Simple habits like this can cut workplace electricity use up to 25%. How much could your office save?##
Give tech a second life!/Donate or recycle unused computers, printers or phones to schemes like Tech Angels or Zero Waste Leeds. This helps cut down electronic waste in the workplace and supports the community, keeping valuable materials in use.##
Have you got a Green Lead at work?/You don't need to be the boss to start a "Green Team!" Gather colleagues to suggest better recycling or meat-free lunch days. It builds teamwork and shows your office is a leader in Leeds. Start the conversation!##

What is Your Council doing?

Future Talent Leeds:

Future Talent Leeds is supported by Leeds City Council. It helps employers and training providers prepare for new green jobs as Leeds works towards becoming a net-zero carbon city.

This means getting ready for jobs like:

·      Solar panel engineers

·      Sustainable building specialists

·      Carbon data analysts

·      Green finance workers

Future Talent Leeds helps make sure the right courses, training and apprenticeships are available so people can learn the skills these jobs need.

It also works with schools, colleges and universities to show young people that caring for the planet can be a career choice. By connecting students with employers, it helps make green jobs feel normal, exciting and possible for the next generation.

Meet Our 330+ Electric Super-Vans!

Leeds City Council now has 333 electric vehicles in place, alongside 95 charging points across 10 council sites. The council aims to introduce 70 new charging points across the city in 2026, with the first supported on-street bay being rolled out in February 2026

The Result: This helps cut transport emissions and supports Leeds’ mission to become the first net-zero city in the UK

The Impact: More charging points make owning an electric vehicle more feasible and accessible. Electric cars often have lower operating costs and significant environmental benefits.

Business Boost: Supporting a Greener Way to Work

Leeds City Council is working with partners to help local businesses start their journey toward a cleaner future. We know that making a workplace "green" can be expensive and confusing, so we are doing the "heavy lifting" by helping to provide expert advice and millions of pounds in funding for shops, offices, and factories that are ready to make a change.

The Result: By working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, we have helped unlock a £10 million support package that provides local businesses with free energy audits and a clear plan to reach net zero.

The Impact: This means businesses across Leeds can get the expert help they need to lower their energy bills and protect the planet at the same time. By working together, we are helping more workplaces in Leeds become a part of our city’s green future.
